This includes infrastructure installation (bin stations, Bokashi buckets, compactors where required), staff training workshops, and first collections. Multi-site rollouts are phased across 6–12 weeks.

Yes — this is one of the key advantages of Bokashi fermentation over conventional composting. The anaerobic acidic environment breaks down all food waste including meat, fish, dairy, cooked food and citrus. There is no odour and no pest attraction. If you have tried food waste composting before and found it didn't work, it is very likely the system was conventional aerobic composting, which has these limitations. Bokashi does not.

Fermented Bokashi material goes to one of three destinations depending on your programme: (1) on-site composting in a dedicated compost bay, producing black gold for your gardens or distribution to local farms; (2) off-site to our processing partners who convert it into agricultural-grade compost; or (3) biodigestion, where it produces both compost and biogas. All pathways are documented with chain-of-custody diversion certificates.

International flight catering waste — any food or packaging from international flights — is regulated as Category A controlled waste under ICAO regulations and South Africa's Animal Diseases Act. It must be segregated at source, transported in sealed containers, and processed through licensed incineration or sterilisation. Isibindi manages the full compliance chain including manifest documentation, licensed facility processing, and the certificates required by DAFF and port health authorities. Non-compliance carries significant fines and operational risk.

Yes. All aviation waste destruction is performed through licensed Category A waste facilities. Isibindi holds the required NEMA permits for the transportation and handling of regulated waste streams, and all processing partners are DAFF-registered. We provide full destruction certificates and manifests for every batch.

Monthly reports include: total waste generated by stream, tonnes diverted from landfill, diversion percentage, recycled commodity tonnages, CO₂-equivalent avoided (using IPCC emission factors), and chain-of-custody certificates. Data is formatted for GRI Standards 306 (Waste), CDP water and climate questionnaires, B-BBEE environmental sub-criteria, and Green Building Council SA credit submissions. Yes. Green Star Operations waste credits require verified diversion data with documented processing pathways — exactly what Isibindi's standard monthly reporting provides. We have supported multiple properties through Green Star Operations submissions and can prepare the credit documentation package on request.

Many clients find that the savings from reduced general waste collection costs — plus recovered commodity revenue from recyclables — offset a significant portion of the programme fee. For clients generating sufficient volumes of clean, segregated recyclables (paper, cardboard, plastics, metals), yes — we pass through commodity market revenue. The amount varies with global commodity prices and contamination levels. Segregation quality is the biggest determinant: contaminated recyclables have zero or negative value; clean segregated material has consistent positive value.

The National Environmental Management: Waste Act (NEM:WA) requires producers, importers and brand owners of certain products to meet Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) obligations, and places a general duty of care on all waste generators to manage waste in a manner that does not harm the environment. The National Waste Management Strategy targets a 50% diversion from landfill. While enforcement has been inconsistent, regulatory risk is increasing and ESG due diligence requirements from investors and corporate clients are hardening rapidly.

Where we handle documents containing personal information as part of confidential document destruction services, yes — we provide POPIA-compliant destruction with witnessed destruction certificates. For standard organic and dry recyclable streams this is not applicable.
